Could you imagine the scale starting to go down from one simple change? This change is eating a high energy breakfast.
Breakfast is the most important part of the day. Or is not? Opinions are so varied on this and so is the research. I personally have found the benefits of having breakfast but I don’t obsess how early I eat it. I tend to get up about 6 am each day and don’t have breakfast until 9 am. But we are not discussing what time you should eat it, we are focusing on what food you use to start your day.
Now that we have that settled let’s move on to the subject at hand. Whatever your first meal of the day is, it needs to be a high energy meal. This will give you the energy to make it through your day without being hungry, snacking or grazing.
What I have learned through research and experimentation, as far as snacking goes, if you need a snack mid morning you are probably not eating a high energy breakfast. Here is an example. If I were to start the day out with a bowl of oatmeal with a nice heap of sugar on it, I would crash within an hour or two and be rummaging around for a snack. Now let’s say you take that same bowl of oatmeal and add a serving of nuts and fruit to it, boom, high energy!
My personal go to breakfast is eggs with a little-sauteed onion, red pepper and topped with avocado. I tend to eat this several times a week and I will honestly go for hours without being hungry.
Four things a high energy breakfast will do for you:
- It will help eliminate that blood sugar crash in the morning
- It will help you last between meals without snacking
- It will give you an amazing amount of energy throughout the day
- It tends to help you make better choices throughout the day
