Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod

Ever wake up feeling exhausted, rushed, and you know right off the bat, that its going to be a bad day? This is how I used to feel almost every morning until I read the Miracle Morning. This book has extremely simple principles and ideas to follow, yet it can change your life. If you feel as though you are not living up to your full potential or like you are struggling daily, then I encourage you to read this book. At the very least; try the techniques listed below for 30 days. If you are currently miserable and unsatisfied with any aspect of your life, well then; you don’t really have anything to lose by trying this approach.

…I’m just going to give up; thats what I’ve always done when things get too difficult”

Every time you choose to do the easy thing instead of choosing the right thing, you are shaping your identity, becoming the type of person who does whats easy, rather than what’s right.

Key takeaways from the Morning Miracle:

The book is designed to show you how just by getting up an hour earlier in the morning and focusing on yourself~ before anything else, you can transform you life in 30 days.

Is it really possible? I encourage you to read the book and try it for yourself. I personally guarantee, you will not have wasted your time reading the book nor by incorporating the ideas in the book into your day. For starters though, you need to make a decision as to what you are going to begin doing differently, from this day forward.

Here is a common example of what a 60- minute miracle morning may look like; Life S.A.V.E.R.S. Silence (5 minutes), affirmations (5 minutes), visualization (5 minutes), exercise (20 minutes), reading (20 minutes), scribing [journaling] (5 minutes).

One point that he brings out in the book is to start valuing the health benefits of energy consequences of the foods we eat~as much as, or more then the taste. We often forget that food is energy and we turn it into a reward or social thing. But it was designed for energy and that’s what we need to use it for.

Another great point brought out was overcoming procrastination. The best way to this is to “Do the worst, first”. If we do what we hate the most, but is essential to our well-being, either financially or physically, we ensure that it gets done each day.

If you don’t control your habits, your habits will control you. It is essential that we find a way to form good habits in our life. Habits take a while to form, including following through with the miracle morning. Here are the phases a person typically goes through during this 30 day transformation:

Phase 1 [Days 1-10] unbearable. We may be very excited in the beginning but as soon as the newness wears off, reality sets in. These tend to be the most difficult days, but if you can stick them out, phase two will get much better.
Phase 2 [Days 11-20] uncomfortable. You will now start getting used to your new habit. You will now have developed some confidence and positive associations to the benefits of your habit.
Phase 3 [Days 21-30] Unstoppable. This phase is crucial to sustaining your new habit. You will begin to feel proud for making it this far. Don’t be surprised if at the end of this phase you find yourself saying “I am a morning person”.

What should be included in your miracle morning:

Silence;

  • Mediation
  • Prayer
  • Reflection
  • Deep breathing
  • Gratitude

Affirmations; (believe me this may seem silly now but will completely pay off)

  • What you really want
  • Why you want it
  • Whom you are committed to being to create it
  • What you you’re committed to doing to attain it
  • Add inspiration quotes and philosophies
  • You must visualize these affirmations for them to be effective

Visualization;
Get ready. Sit up tall, in a comfortable position. Breathe deep and clear you mind.
Visualize what you really want. Don’t be afraid to visualize success. Visualize your major goals, deepest desires and most exciting; would-totally-change-my-life-if-I-achieved-my dreams.

  • See, feel , hear, touch, taste, and smell every detail.
  • Visualize who you need to be & what you need to do. Begin to visualize yourself living in total alignment with the person you need to be, to achieve your vision.
  • Create a vision board (I know these may seem silly too, but they help see your vision). A vision board is simply a poster board on which you post images of what you want to have, who you want to become, what you want to do, where you want to live, etc.

Exercise; it puts you into a peak mental, physical and emotional state so that you can win the day. If you don’t make time for exercise, you’ll probably have to make time for illness.

Reading; (no this is not the latest sci-fi book or latest mystery novel) This is the fast track to transforming your life. The quickest way to grow is by learning from the experts.

  • Scribing (journaling)
  • Gain clarity
  • Capture ideas
  • Review lessons
  • Acknowledge your progress

In conclusion:

I now wake up two hours before I need to, I leave a cup filled with water on the counter and drink it while I brew the coffee. I then proceed to the couch to have my miracle morning. For me; this means taking a few deep breaths and then reading something spiritual for 10 to 20 minutes. Then I read a personal development book for another 10 to 20 minutes. At this point I am wide awake, I feel strong and empowered already! Next, I grab a journal and clear my mind. What I write about varies, but I like to write what I am grateful for, what my aspirations are, and what is currently happening in my life and family. This of course usually involves a funny story or two. My family is not usually very serious!

At this point I move on to my affirmations, they tend to change often and the list continues to grow. I work hard to visualize these affirmations, the more you can envision them, the more likely they are to become a reality in your life. Now that these essential parts for my morning are complete, I am ready to exercise my body. By getting a workout done in the morning, not one of my favorite things to do!, I take care of two things; getting it done right away removes the chance that I might get to busy to get it done later in the day and this actually helps improve my energy for the rest of the day.

As you can see, the Morning Miracle has completely transformed me, made me a better person and I have found a drastic increase in my productivity for the day. In fact, if I skip a miracle morning, I tend to struggle through the day and never feel as accomplished as I am on the days I follow through.

I hope you take the time to read the miracle morning or at the very least embrace the principles brought out in this article. I would love to hear how the Morning Miracle changes your life and potential.
